Hoarding Cleanup Help in Illinois
Illinois has one of the largest chore-services programs in the country and, as far as we can tell, almost nobody using it for the work it was actually written to cover.
If you’re an Illinois family with a home that has become unsafe, or a care coordinator holding a case nobody will take, call 888-729-0490. Any hour.
The Community Care Program, and why it matters here
Illinois runs the Community Care Program — CCP — through the Illinois Department on Aging. It’s a 1915(c) waiver, it’s been going for over forty years, and homemaker and chore service is one of its benefits. In a recent program year it served roughly 70,700 older adults, and the total client count runs past a hundred thousand.
Two things about CCP are unusual, and both work in an Illinois family’s favor.
First, procurement is open. There’s no enrollment window and no deadline — a qualified agency can apply at any time, which is not how most states run it.
Second, and more useful to you: CCP clients have freedom of choice of vendor. Your care coordinator can recommend a provider, and you are not stuck with whoever the agency defaults to. If the assigned homemaker agency has looked at the home and backed out — which happens constantly with these cases — you are allowed to ask for someone who does this specific work.
Where we actually stand in Illinois — the honest version
Our CCP provider application is in progress. We are not going to tell you we can bill Illinois Medicaid today, because we can’t yet, and a case manager who acts on that and then can’t get a claim paid has a real problem on their hands.
Here’s what is true: our GATA pre-qualification came back all green, the DBA is registered, and the application is moving. Call us anyway if you’re a CCU or a care coordinator — knowing a specialized provider is coming into your state is worth something, and timing a referral around an approval date is often possible.
And when we say no authorization, no work — that applies here the same as everywhere.
Illinois care coordinators: call our team 24/7 — 888-729-0490. We’ll tell you exactly where the enrollment stands.
Who sends the referrals in Illinois
Care Coordination Units — CCUs — housed inside the state’s thirteen Area Agencies on Aging. If you’re a family member trying to get help for a parent and you don’t know where to start, your CCU is the door. They assess, they authorize, and under freedom of choice they can point you at a vendor who will actually show up.
Chicago winters make this urgent in a way it isn’t elsewhere
A cluttered home in a mild climate is a slow-burning problem. In Illinois it’s a seasonal emergency, and the calendar is unforgiving.
Piles against a furnace or a space heater are how these houses burn. Blocked exits are how people don’t get out. When a heating system fails in a home the technician can’t physically reach, the pipes go, and then you’re not dealing with clutter anymore — you’re dealing with a flooded, frozen house and a repair bill that dwarfs the cleanup. We see it every February.
If someone in Illinois is heading into winter in a home like that, that’s the argument to have with them now, in the summer, while there’s time. Not the argument about the newspapers.
What we do in Illinois homes
Extreme clutter removal, biohazard remediation, gross filth cleaning, deep cleaning and sanitization, industrial odor removal, and pest aftermath cleanup. Where the family wants to go slowly and keep the homeowner in control, decluttering and sorting is the better route.
Paying for it while the Medicaid route is still pending
Right now, in Illinois, most of these jobs are private pay. Check homeowners insurance first if there’s a covered event underneath the accumulation — a burst pipe in a Chicago winter is exactly that. Check whether the property is part of an estate, in which case cleanup is normally an estate expense rather than an heir’s.
If there’s still a gap, flexible financing is available for large cleanups, and families splitting the cost between siblings use the Family Cleanup Fund.
